Governor Salomón Jara Cruz inaugurated the Congress of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Communities of Oaxaca, highlighting its importance within the framework of the National Development Plan 2025-2030. The event, held at the Cultural and Convention Center of Oaxaca, aims to strengthen the participation of these communities in the creation of new laws that respect and strengthen their ways of life.

The governor pointed out that the constitutional reform in effect since October of last year represents a historical act of reclamation for indigenous peoples and communities. He emphasized the importance of these communities being protagonists in building the future of Mexico. The event highlighted that Oaxaca is a meeting point of ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity, hosting multiple indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities.

With a high percentage of its population speaking indigenous languages at the national level, Oaxaca is a diverse and culturally rich territory. The Congress organized by the Secretariat of Interculturality, Indigenous Peoples, and Afro-Mexican Communities (SIPCIA) was carried out through six working groups with themes such as Justice, Health, Education, Women, Language and Thought, as well as Social Development and Economy.

The head of SIPCIA, Juana Hernández López, emphasized the importance of building and strengthening the rights of indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples. She noted that the constitutional reform provides a historic opportunity to combat racism, discrimination, and promote the active participation of these communities in all areas of state life.
